Over 5000 members of staff wear their NHS Rainbow Badge with pride and have pledged to take action to support inclusion and visibility. We’ve celebrated Pride together in the city with a breakfast for our staff and their families, as well as highlighting Trans inclusion across our NHS services.’

An important part of this is supporting every member of staff to be their authentic self. As an organisation, we recognise and celebrate the value that difference and diversity brings. Members of our Board and Executive team are highly visible in their support for LGBT inclusion and in championing change for staff and patients regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. Our LGBT staff network also plays an important role in ensuring we value and celebrate diversity with passion and energy.

Nursing degree apprenticeships were announced by the government in 2016, as a way of opening-up nursing careers to more people and bringing more qualified nurses into the NHS.

Since then, Northumbria University has been working with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to develop and design its own degree apprenticeship programme.

On Thursday 5 July 2018, the NHS - one of the nation’s most loved institutions - celebrated its 70th anniversary.

We are marking this special anniversary with seventy stories, told by the Trust’s amazing staff, about how their work makes the organisation one of the best performing teaching Trusts in the country.

The ‘70 years, 70 stories’ project is a celebration of advances in science and technology, told by staff who encompass its development and continue to progress and transform the NHS for future generations.

Seventy people, from porters and sterile service technicians to clinical scientists and the chief executive, have each recounted their experiences with their stories launched today (Thursday) to reflect the collaboration between all staff to deliver Newcastle Hospitals healthcare services.
